Out of Towners

There are two types of Out of Towners, regional entrants in NZ and waaaay out of town types, ie kiwis overseas. If you're wanting to compete from overseas then read #2.

#1 - New Zealand Regional/Rural Entrants.

Out of Towners do not have a finish line.

Instead, you must have your sealed envelope with film and paperwork in it cited by a Justice of the Peace. Justices of the Peace are easy to find, just do a search for one in your area in the Yellow Pages. At time of writing there were 6716 Justices of the Peace showing at www.yellow.co.nz. Give one in your area a call ahead of the weekend and find out if they will be available on the Sunday to witness your entry.

Justices of the Peace are committed to serving the community for no reward, so this won't cost you anything and do not be shy in approaching one to help you. Do give them an appropriate amount of warning that you will be needing a document witnessed on Sunday evening.

Follow these instructions and all will be cool.

  • Tick the box that says "Out of Town" in the Registration
  • Find a Justice of the Peace in your area before April 9th.
  • Send the JPs email address/phone number to your City Manager.
  • Buy an A5 NZ Courier bag from your Post Office and address it to your City managers address.
  • On Friday April 16th, just after 7pm your genre and random elements will be texted to you by your city manager.
  • On Sunday April 18th you'll need to drop off your short in the courier bag before 7pm to the JP in your area. He will then sign across the seal and keep it overnight.
  • Monday morning the JP will call the courier to collect.
  • Find out when your short is playing by checking City Info.
  • You must have at least one person from your team present or your short will be disqualified.

Or you can simply move to the city of your choice.

#2 - International Competitors

You must be a kiwi living abroad. Or have a kiwi team leader and you are shooting material abroad for your short. This competition is about supporting grass roots filmmaking in NZ, so you must have a kiwi Team Leader.
