Important things to Remember
Hello You Maniacs,
Please remember to hand in your USB stick in a C5 envelope (and nothing else).
You must write on the envelope:
- Team Name
- Title of Film
- Genre
- Mobile Number
(And if you can label your USB with Team Name somehow that would be great)
No paperwork is required at the hand-in. You must have filled out the Online Wrap-Up form in the weekend or we won't have the info we need to screen your short. Your password will be sent to you shortly. You can't access the Form til the weekend.

‘Canons top 10 Tips &Tricks for surviving V48HOURS’
NUMBER ONE WITH A BULLET : This is the #1 for a very good reason. And if you don't follow it, chances are you won't be handing a film in on time. So for the love of all things holy, test all your equipment and especially the pipeline from shoot > editing > file. Do it on the equipment you'll be using as well. And please look at what we require in terms of delivery specifications. If you don't submit what we ask for then we may not be able to screen your film.
PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE TEAM : Choose your team dynamics well. Think ahead. No drama queens onboard. There is nothing worse than someone bringing the mood of the whole team down during the weekend.
EXECUTIVE ACTION : It's a team effort no doubt but it's always best to make sure that you have one person who can make final executive decisions. Films have been ruined by too many cooks in the kitchen. Nothing hurts more than indecision under extreme deadlines.
THE GHOST WRITER: Try and complete your script late Friday so everyone wakes up to a completed script (plus shooting order and rough storyboards if you're game) on Saturday at 6am.
EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED: Think about how many shorts are going to be made the same weekend. Then think about trying something utterly unique or risky. We love Teams that risk it all and go for broke. Don't play it safe and you might just end up in the finals.
FASTER PUSSYCAT EDIT EDIT: Begin editing as soon as you start shooting. You need every second in editing. Let your editor work in the zone and have something ready for you early, then discuss.
EAT DRINK MAN WOMAN: Organise some eats for your hardworking team. Nothing makes people more loyal than catering on film sets. Beg or borrow and pull favours from anyone who has access to making yummy grub.
PLAN 9 : Plan as much as you can in advance. Cast, crew, potential locations and props are just some of the things you should have locked down before the shoot weekend. Everything will probably go horribly wrong on the Sunday afternoon when you're wanting to output your masterpiece to file. So make sure you know what to do (or who to contact) when your computer freezes.
THE ART OF NOISE : Sound. Sound. Sound. Record clean sound. There is nothing worse in all of the 48 than bad sound. We can forgive performances by your parents, cameras with lens caps on, nonsensical editing but judges and audiences cannot stand lousy in camera sound. Find, borrow, steal good external sound gear.
THE MOST FUN YOU CAN HAVE DYING: We like to remind everyone that the #1 reason they're entering is to have a weekend of fun. Everything else is a bonus. It's not going to be easy. In fact the chances are high that you'll be tired and frustrated at times but the feeling you have at the finish line will make up for it. Even if you miss the deadline, you'll never forget that moment. Enter for the experience.

Listen up you filthy maggots. The registration deadline for the Worlds Toughest Movie Competition has been extended. Do you hear that. EXTENDED! Registration is open until May 10th. After that date, you are doomed to a life of banality. You will go back to your 9-5 shallow life, never once realising the creative potential that resides deep within you. Do not waver. 48's Survival Guide - Sunday April 29 4pm
Wellington 2012 Q&A Forums at The Paramount
We're running a series of six Q&A forums this year in the three week leading up to the V48HOURS weekend
These will be located in the front lobby area of The Paramount and run for about an hour each.
Everyone is welcome, but please note that we really only have space for 1 or 2 people from each team in each session. It's a good idea if team leaders pick those who will get the most from each one and take that info back to your team.
To help teams get the best out of them we're running 6 sessions, all focused on different aspects of the film making process.

Canon teams up with V48HOUR Film Festival for New Zealands greatest creative weekend!
Canon New Zealand is proud to announce their partnership with New Zealands iconic V48HOURS Film Festival. Canon has come on board as the festivals official technology partner for 2012, teaming up with industry leaders to showcase the country's creative videographers and to celebrate the 10th anniversary of V48HOURS.
Rochelle Mora, Brand Manager Imaging at Canon New Zealand explains, V48HOURS is all about inspiring videographers to take their creativity to the next level. The festival pushes participants to learn, challenge and put themselves out there, which is what we are passionate about here at Canon.
"The festival harnesses the enthusiasm of filmmaking in a high-energy, hands-on way, which promotes and encourages creativity in film making and is a great way to highlight the leading talent we have here New Zealand" says Mora.
V48HOURS is New Zealands largest filmmaking event, founded by movie entrepreneur Ant Timpson and mentored by kiwi icons such as Sir Peter Jackson. The annual event has grown into a nationwide frenzy where entrants have just 48 hours to make a short film from start to finish.
With nearly 800 teams and an estimated 10,000 people actively involved with the festival in 2011, V48HOURS has attracted people of every level from beginners through to industry professionals.
Entrants have the opportunity to win a range of great prizes, with over $15,000 worth of Canon gear up for grabs including the highly anticipated new EOS 5D Mark III and EOS 60D digital SLR cameras.
