Can't buy unrated films in New Zealand

OK, so I realise this is a bit of a bitch and moan, but what does a girl around here have to do to buy an unrated film?! You can buy all sorts of porn and highly illicit films quite easily, why is it that I can't buy a perfectly good dvd of a film that isn't rated, even if I'm over 18? I don't see how the NZ Ratings authority should be allowed to restrict the dvds I can and can't buy as long as the content is legal and I'm rather annoyed that if a publisher cant pay the rating fee they can't sell here.

For the record, I want to buy The Fall (2006). Getting it off Amazon will have a different zone rating thing (which admittedly I can get past) but this is beyond stupidity.

I had a look online and can't find much on the subject. Anyone know anything about why this is the case?

I love that PJ is pushing ahead the adoption of 48fps for cinema. I can see right now that consumer cameras, TV's and broadcast systems are going to be following suit (probably in that order) a lot faster than previous adopted technology.

From what I read over 10,000 cinemas will be fitted with 48fps projection gear in time for the release.

I just bought this DVD on Thursday... because my son put it in my hand at the warehouse and it had Sam Jackson on the cover.

It's an average action comedy – and would probably make most of you cringe. But I recommend watching it anyway.

It's got some great over done but well executed cheese in it. It has some awesome "moving through a freeze frame" moments that I'd love to have a go at doing – like Frozen Heist

Names of note: Sam Jackson, Dwayne Johnson (the rock), Mark Wahlberg, and the annoying Will Ferrell. Lots of cameos from others who I imagine were just around the studio at the wrong time and got roped in for a gag.

Script Writers Resources

Hi All

The following interview with John Truby was in a recent email from scriptmag.com. Well worth a read – take from it what you will.

Question: What questions should a writer ask him or herself prior to crafting their story?

John Truby: Most writers can?t tell at the premise stage whether they?ve got a good story because they don?t have the training to see the deep structural problems in the idea before writing it as a script.

The extraordinary fact is 99% of writers fail at the premise. This is the great unknown gatekeeper that keeps most writers from being successful. If you screw up the premise, nothing you do later in the writing process will make any difference. The game?s already over.

The biggest mistakes writers make at the premise:
The idea is not original.
The idea doesn?t have a clear desire line for the hero that extends throughout the story.
The idea doesn?t have a strong main opponent.
Question: How much time and effort should a writer put into outlining their script and fleshing out their characters before actually writing the script?

John Truby: Much more time and effort than most writers think.

For every hour...
